Our Philosophy
Four Pillars
AFA is built around four convictions about what childhood should be, and what it can become. These are not values we put on a wall. They are how we teach, who we hire, and what we measure ourselves against every day.
We are not a typical early learning center.
We built our school around four convictions. Each one shapes the daily experience of every child in our care. Together, they answer the question: what kind of person do we hope this child will grow up to be?
Bilingüismo
True Bilingualism
Children who think, dream, and create in two languages.
AFA does not teach Spanish as a class. Children at AFA build genuine fluency through the 90/10 immersion model, native Spanish-speaking teachers, and a curriculum where Spanish is the air they breathe.
By the time children leave AFA, they speak, read, and think fluidly in two languages. This is not memorized vocabulary. This is real bilingual cognition.
Cultura
Cultural Fluency
Real cultural roots, not tourist culture.
AFA weaves the music, traditions, art, storytelling, and celebrations of the Spanish-speaking world into every part of every day.
Our teachers come from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Cuba, they bring their own cultures, songs, and stories into the classroom. Children at AFA grow up with cultural fluency the same way they grow up with language. They know Latin America from the inside, not from a textbook.
Corazón
Social-Emotional Learning
We build kind, capable, emotionally fluent children.
AFA treats social-emotional growth with the same intentionality as academic learning. Feelings are named in two languages. Friendships are nurtured. Conflict is taught as a skill, not a problem. Resilience is built through small daily practices.
Our youngest learners leave AFA knowing how to identify their emotions, navigate relationships, and recover from setbacks. These are not soft skills. These are the foundation skills.
Mundo
Global-Citizen Mindset
Children who see themselves as part of a wider world.
AFA raises children to be curious about everyone, confident in who they are, and capable of belonging anywhere.
Through cultural immersion, bilingual literacy, and a faculty drawn from many countries, children at AFA grow up understanding that their world is bigger than their hometown. They learn to navigate difference with comfort, ask thoughtful questions about people unlike themselves, and carry a sense of belonging that extends far beyond Woodbury.
"This is what we mean by raising citizens of the world."
Every classroom. Every teacher. Every song we sing. Every day.
